MSM Announces Return of Pom Program & Head Coach

Mount St. Mary Catholic High School Names Head Coach for Return of Pom Program


OKC, OK— Mount St. Mary Catholic High School is excited to announce the return of a pom/dance program and new head coach, Misti Columbus, to the Rocket campus.


“It was a unanimous decision to bring the pom/dance program back to our campus. Having a rich tradition in school spirit, the MSM Pom Team will add energy and excitement to game days in addition to providing our student athletes with another avenue to compete at a high level,” said Richie Henderson, MSM Athletic Director.


Misti Columbus is an Oklahoma native that currently resides in Oklahoma City with her husband Brian, sons Collin and Cash. Collin is a senior in high school and Cash will be an incoming freshman at The Mount next school year. 


Misti graduated from Moore High School where she served as captain of the school’s pom squad. During that time, she received numerous awards including, All-State, All-American, and was a two time National Champion. After high school Misti was a member of the University of Central Oklahoma Pom Squad for three years and served as co-captain her third year. Misti was a member of the National Dance Alliance (NDA) staff, where she traveled across the United States teaching dancers new techniques and dances to properly showcase their passion and talent. Misti’s experience also includes coaching Mustang High School pom, Tribe Cheer and Tumbling dance coach, All-Star Cheer and Dance director at Shock Cheer and Tumbling, and assistant pom coach for Bishop McGuinness for multiple competition seasons. Misti has also been a judge for many pom, dance, and cheer competitions. Misti was a dancer for the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz, a semi-professional arena football team. 


Dancing has always been a passion of Misti’s and she is eager to share her love of dance through the Mount Pom Program. Misti stated, “I am honored and elated about the opportunity to pioneer the Mount St. Mary Pom Program. I am looking forward to the launch of the program and giving students the opportunities of leadership and school spirit through dance.”


“Misti brings with her a wealth of knowledge and experiences from her previous stops throughout her career in the dance world. We are excited for our student athletes to benefit from her passion and love for dance,” said Richie Henderson, MSM Athletic Director.


Rocket students interested in learning more about the new dance program can meet Coach Columbus this Thursday, March 9 from 3:30 - 5:00 pm on the MSM campus. Coach Columbus will answer questions, provide information and teach a short dance combo. Reach out to Coach Columbus at with any questions.
