Preparing for success in college starts during the student's Freshman year at Mount St. Mary. Students at MSM have a rigorous curriculum and are on a block schedule, similar to that of a college schedule, during all four years of their Mount education. Freshman year at MSM, students begin the CollegeBoard Roadtrip Nation Program. The road map program records the students subject interests, career interests and helps students with a plan for college over their four years of high school. By senior year, the MSM Counseling Department encourages students to have applied to all colleges of interest and scholarship opportunities by late fall.
The MSM Plan:
-9th Grade at MSM: Students take the PSAT 8/9 test to prepare for the PSAT and the ACT-Aspire to prepare for the ACT.
-10th Grade at MSM: Students take the PSAT and Pre-ACT.
-11th Grade at MSM: Students take the PSAT/NMSQT to earn National Merit honor. Students also take the SAT and ACT their junior year.
-12th Grade at MSM: Students take Advancement Placement Tests, ACT and SAT.
Each year, 100% of MSM students move on to college or trade schools and 80% of MSM students continue to graduation compared to the national average graduation rate of 59%, according to the National Center for Education Statistics.
