Lettering in Music

Music letters, inserts, bars, pins, and plaques are awarded to those students who show exceptional dedication to music and the mission of the Mount St. Mary Catholic High School Music Department. Students are to track their activities throughout the academic year and submit their records to the Director of Music when solicited. The award schedule is as follows:

 

1)      First Year | Letter (if not earned in another sport), Music Insert, & Bar

2)      Second Year | Bar

3)      Third Year | Pin & Bar

4)      Fourth Year | Plaque & Bar

 

Criteria for Lettering in Music

To earn a letter, pin, bar, or plaque, students will need to earn a total of 50 points by way of the activities outlined below – whilst sustaining contiguous enrollment in a performing ensemble –within an academic year:

4)      Place in the OSSAA State Music Competition                                                        6 Points

as a soloist with a Good Rating

5)      Place in the OSSAA Regional Music Competition                                                    5 Points

as part of an ensemble

6)      Compete in the OSSAA State Competition                                                            10 Points

7)      Place in the OSSAA State Music Competition                                                         10 Points

as a soloist with a Superior Rating

8)      Place in the OSSAA State Music Competition                                                         8 Points                

as a soloist with a Excellent Rating

9)      Place in the OSSAA State Music Competition                                                         6 Points

as a soloist with a Good Rating

20)  Classical Concert Attendance                                                                                   5 Points

21)  Participate in non-MSM Ensemble                                                                            10 Points

22)  Private Lessons (16 .5-Hr Lesson Min.)                                                                    10 Points

23)  Tutoring of Music Students (8 .5-Hr Lesson Min.)                                                      10 Points

24)  Assistance with Department Activities                                                                      5 Points
