Art I Drawing
This introductory course will concentrate on the student’s understanding of the elements of design (line, shape, texture, space, value, color and form) and the use of them in mark-making techniques, such as drawing, painting, printmaking and mixed media in both color and black and white. Composition – the arrangement of the defined space that the students are using to create art is emphasized through the use of the principles of design (contrast, emphasis, repetition, movement, balance and unity). The students will develop perception skills through observational drawing, modeled form on a 2-D surface, and the illusion of creating spatial depth. In addition to learning to see better, self-expression will be a primary focus as the students use both symbolism and reflection as a strategy for creating their art work.
