Art I Design
This introductory course will concentrate on the elements of design (line, shape texture, space, value and form) and how these elements are used in the layout or arrangement of the compositional space. The principles of design will be studied and utilized by the students using drawing, painting, mixed media, printmaking, and photography in both black and white and color. The following principles will be integrated into the course: Unity/Harmony, Balance/Symmetrical and Asymmetrical, Emphasis/Dominance, Contrast/Variety, Rhythm/Repetition, Proportion/Scale and Figure/Ground. Students will work with concepts such as positive/negative space, type/text, textures/patterns, symbols/repeated image and color/design through assignments that will include photography and visual communication on both a personal level as well as art work that is client based.
