Meet Our Principal
Dear MSM Community,
On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the Principal Search Committee, we are pleased to announce the appointment of Laura Cain as the next principal of Mount St. Mary Catholic High School, effective July 1, 2022.
An MSM alumna and parent, Laura has a deep-rooted love for Mount St. Mary. Laura is a 1989 graduate of MSM, and her three daughters graduated in 2016 and 2020. Laura’s stepdaughter is a current Mount St. Mary student. Laura has been in education for 27 years, 14 of those in leadership. Most recently, she served as principal at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School and served as a member of the Steering Team for Director of Catholic Education Leadership Transition in 2021.
“Mrs. Laura Cain showcases confidence, experience, strong Catholic faith and the strength needed to lead The Mount forward on its path to excellence. We are excited to welcome her home,” said Search Committee Chair Paige Williams Shepherd ’03. “We are elated that after a four-month intensive and intentional national search process, Laura has been identified as the ideal person to shepherd Mount St. Mary into an exciting and dynamic future for our students and community.”
Throughout the process, The Mount community played a critical role in the search, from providing valuable feedback through an online survey to key meetings with faculty and staff, parents, the Advisory Search Committee and the Board of Trustees.
The Board of Trustees unanimously approved Laura’s hiring at its May 12 board meeting and received her signed Letter of Intent on Tuesday, May 17.
“The Board of Trustees is forever grateful to Dr. Diane Floyd for her exceptional leadership as interim principal over the past five months,” Said Paige Williams Shepherd ‘03.
Dr. Floyd will transition back to her role as Director of Admissions, where she has secured one of the largest freshman classes in Mount St. Mary history.
“I am honored to lead Mount St. Mary Catholic High School, an institution that is dear to me as an alum and parent of three graduates,” Laura Cain said. “My experience as a Catholic school leader will allow me to build on the school’s tradition of excellence, making sure all programs and practices not only align with our mission and values, but move The Mount from excellent to extraordinary.”
Laura is a dynamic leader who embraces the unique culture, traditions and values of The Mount, which is a unique school governed in cooperation with co-sponsors – The Sisters of Mercy and the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City.
“We are confident Laura will lead the school in the spirit and mission of the Sisters of Mercy and the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City. With her leadership experience, her connection to the archdiocese, The Mount and to Mercy, Laura is well positioned to move the mission of the school forward,” said Sr. Lisa Griffith, RSM, executive director of Mercy Education and Most Reverend Paul S. Coakley, Archbishop of Oklahoma City.
We wish you a wonderful summer and remain grateful for your support and trust in Mount St. Mary Catholic High School.
Sincerely,
