Scholarships/Opportunities

To learn more about the Air Force Academy, go to www.academyadmissions.com . Complete a pre-candidate questionnaire from the Admissions website after March of your junior year. The online application closes January 31 of the year you wish to enter. Apply as soon as possible, so your qualifications can be evaluated, you can schedule a physical exam and information can be provided to members of Congress on your potential as a nominee. If you need assistance, contact the nearest Air Force Admissions Liaison Officer.

If you enlist in the Air National Guard for 6 years, you are guaranteed free tuition at any state university.

The Horatio Alger Scholarship application, which considers critical financial need, involvement in co-curricular and community service activities and a GPA of 2.0, is due October 30, 2010.  Go online to www.horatioalger.com/SCHOLARSHIPS/index.cfm

The Anne Ford and Allegra Ford Scholarship is open to students of high merit with an identified learning disability. Applicant must have a 3.0 GPA, be a US citizen and a senior in high school. Award is $10,000. Go to www.ncld.org  to find out more.

Ayn Rand Essay Contest is open to 11th - 12th grade students who submit an essay on Fountainhead and to 9th -10th grade students who submit an essay on Anthem. Prizes are given in amounts from $30 to $10,000. Deadline is March 20 (Anthem) and April 26 (Fountainhead), 2011. See http://www.aynrand.org/

The Coca-Cola Scholars Program, which rewards leadership and excellence, is open to all high school seniors who are U.S. citizens/nationals and have a 3.0 GPA. There are 250 4 year scholarship awards given away annually. Deadline is October 31, 2010. For more information, go to www.coca-colascholars.org.

Nominations for the Danforth Scholars Program to Washington University in St. Louis are due October 15, 2010 and applications are due January 15, 2011.  Maturity, strong moral character, selflessness, and commitment to the community are the qualities that embody the essence of the Danforth Scholars.

 The Elks National Foundation will award 2011 Most Valuable Students and Legacy Scholarships. After September 1, 2010, applications can be found at www.elks.org/enf/scholars/OurScholarships.cfm.  MVS applications are due December 1, 2010, and Legacy applications are due February 1, 2011.

The Gates Millennium Scholars program was established to provide outstanding, low income students an opportunity to complete a college degree in any discipline they choose.  This scholarship supports the costs of college attendance and graduate school.  Students are eligible to apply if they:

  • Are African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian/Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American
  • Are a citizen/legal permanent resident or national of the U.S.
  • Have attained a cumulative GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (unweighted)
  • Will be enrolling for the first-time at a U.S. accredited college or university as full time, degree-seeking first year student in the Fall of 2011
  • Have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular or other activities
  • Meet the Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria.  Must fill out FAFSA and submit by February 1, 2011, & send in SAR as early as possible.
  • Have all 3 required forms (Nominee Personal Information Form, Nominator Form, and Recommender Form) completed and submitted by the January 10, 2011 deadline.

The John F. Kennedy Library Foundation invites U.S. high school students to write an original essay on political courage.  Visit the Profile in Courage Award Program at www.jfklibrary.org to find out more.  Applications start September 1, 2010 and the deadline for submission is January 8, 2011. 

If you are interested in attending a Military Academy, you should notify both your US Senator and your Congressman of your desire to be considered for nomination. Deadline for application is October 15, 2010, and interviews are November 13, 2010 for Congresswoman Mary Fallin.

Newman University is offering the ASC Community Leader Scholarship to empower students to transform society by permeating it with Christian values.  High school seniors who apply must hold a 3.0 GPA and have an outstanding record of community service.  Applications are due before February 1, 2011.

NRA Civil Rights Defense Fund Youth Essay Contest K-12th winners earn from $100 - $1,000 for an essay of up to 1,000 words on the topic “The Second Amendment to the Constitution: Why is it important to our Nation?”.  Deadline is December 1, 2010. Go to www.nradefensefund.org/writingcontest.aspx

The Oklahoma City Community Foundation offers numerous scholarships to students in the OKC area. To check some of these out, go on-line to www.occf.org . The Community Foundation Scholars Program offers high school seniors who have a GPA between 3.25 and 3.79 with extracurricular activities and community service the opportunity to win $1,500 for an accredited university. The deadline for Community Foundation Scholarship is November 30, 2010.  The H.W. Almen-West OKC Rotary scholarship winner will earn $4,000 and must have a 2.75 GPA and not exceed a $100,000 family income. The application must include an essay on “The Object of Rotary in My Community.” The Commander Family scholarship is for seniors who work while they attend high school.  The Almen-Rotary and Commander Family are due in February 2011.

The Oklahoma Engineering Foundation awards scholarships to high school seniors who demonstrate a genuine interest in an engineering career.  These scholarships must be used in engineering at Oklahoma Christian, OSU, ORU, OU, TU or UCO.  Applicants must be Oklahoma residents and US citizens.  Selection of recipients will be based on:

Scholarships are due by February 16, 2011.  To apply, go online to www.ospe.org  between November 18th and February 12th and fill out a pre-qualification questionnaire. Then you will be emailed an electronic copy of the OEF scholarship form.  A 7-semester transcript is required.

 

The Oklahoma Heritage Association hosts Heritage Week competition each year for 4th through 12th graders to embrace their heritage.  There is a poster/essay competition for 10th – 12th grades and an essay competition for 7th-9th grades.  All entries are due by Friday, October 22, 2010.  For the first time, the Oklahoma Heritage Association and Gaylord-Pickens Museum will award one Oklahoma high school senior the Oklahoma Hall of Fame Scholarship. The $5,000 scholarship is based on the student’s leadership roles, civic/community involvement, academic achievement, and knowledge and pride of our great state. The Oklahoma Ready Mixed Concrete Association essay contest is open to all Oklahoma students ages 16-18.  All entries, which will be judged on content and writing ability, must be typed, double-spaced, and not exceed 600 words.  Possible themes include Concrete’s Benefits to Society and How Concrete Affects the Environment.  For more information, go to www.ormca.com. Entries must be postmarked by November 10, 2010.

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program offers scholarships to students for their volunteer community service. If you have made a difference by volunteering in your community over the past year, you could win $1,000 and a trip to Washington, D.C. Visit www.prudential.com/spirit. Follow the instructions, complete the application, print it, sign it, have your parent sign it, and then give it to your principal or organization leader. The deadline for this scholarship to your high school counselor is November 1, 2010.

QuestBridge College Match program offers an opportunity for outstanding low-income students to gain admission and full four-year scholarships to some of the nation's top-ranked colleges. Students planning to enter college in the fall of 2011 can apply using the online application at http://www.questbridge.org/  The National College Match application is due September 30, 2010 and the QuestBridge College Prep Scholarship will be available online February 2011.

SAE Engineering Scholarship program offers both undesignated and university scholarships to students majoring in engineering. Oklahoma State University is the only Oklahoma school offering the university scholarship of $1,000 which is renewable up to 4 years. Deadline is in December.

Siemens Competition offers competitions for students who will graduate by September 1, 2011. You must submit a research project in mathematics, engineering, the biological and physical sciences or a combination of these disciplines. Awards are from $1,000 to $10,000. The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States sponsor the Voice of Democracy scholarship program for high school students.  This year's theme is "Does My Generation Have a Role in America’s Future?" and the deadline is November 1, 2010.  The VFW also sponsors a Patriots’ Pen Youth essay (November 1) and Scouting Scholarship (March 1). Wendy's High School Heisman is looking for the best student scholar athletes in 33 eligible sports. Students could win a trip to NYC for the Heisman Memorial Trophy Weekend. Applications which are available at www.wendysheisman.com are due October 3, 2010.

The Alpha Tau Omega Distinct Advantage Scholarship is made available to any male graduating senior who will be attending Oklahoma State University and is interested in joining a fraternity.  See Mrs. Wedel for an application which is due April 1, 2010.

The Catholic Foundation of Oklahoma, Inc. will award numerous scholarships to Catholic students.  The CFO guidelines include scholastic ability, financial need, a full-time student, and must be a resident of the Archdiocese of OKC and an active member of a Catholic Parish.  Scholarships include the CFO College and University Scholarships for the university of your choice, the P.B. Connelly Medical Scholarship to OU, the Helen R. Hall Nursing Scholarship, the Duffy Family Scholarship to students attending St. Gregory’s University and the Bob Little Pastoral Musicians Scholarship.  Applications are due April 16, 2010. The Tau Chapter of the Eta Phi Beta Sorority of Oklahoma City will select a graduating senior girl to be the recipient of a four year scholarship.  Requirements include graduating in 2010, 3.0 GPA, and submitting application, transcript, photograph and references by March 31, 2010.  See Mrs. Wedel for an application

 

FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) forms for Pell Grants, Work Study and Loans are available for senior after January 1, at www.fafsa.ed.gov .

The FBI National Academy Associates is offering to qualified incoming sophomores and juniors (14-16) who have a 3.0 or higher and good citizenship, the opportunity to participate in an 8 day program of leadership development at the FBI Academy facility in Quantico, Virginia.  The application is due March 15, 2010.  See Mrs. Wedel for details. 

2010 FIRST Scholarships are offered to students on the FIRST Robotics Competition team. Check out www.usfirst.org/scholarships and follow the link to the 2010 FIRST Scholarship Opportunities.  Deadlines vary.

If you are interested in majoring in physics, astronomy, or engineering physics at OU, you can apply for one of the J. Clarence Karcher Scholarships for $1400 per year.  Applications are in Mrs. Wedel’s office or you can download an application at www.nhn.ou.edu as a .pdf file by selecting “Student Info”.  Deadline is March 15, 2010.

  Kohl’s Kids Who Care is open to all children 6-18, who have not graduated from high school.  You must be nominated by a Kohl’s consumer.  Nomination forms are available in Kohl’s Department Stores on February 1 through March 15, 2010, or at the Kohl’s Kids Who Care webpage.

The MacDowell Club of Allied Arts of Oklahoma City is offering scholarships to deserving seniors who will major in the Arts, have a need for help with private lessons or supplies, have participated in school and community services, and have shown themselves to be good citizens.  Applications which are due March 27, 2010 are available in Mrs. Wedel’s office.

The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) offers several scholarships to Italian American students.  Scholarship applications are due March 5, 2010.  Apply on line at www.niaf.org/scholarships/index.asp.

 

Native American Student Scholarships vary by tribe affiliation.  Most require parents to fill out the FAFSA form before applying.  Contact Office of Indian Education.

 

All student athletes who are interested in playing college sports must register online at the NCAA Clearinghouse website, www.ncaaclearinghouse.net, and then click on “Prospective Student-Athletes”.  ACT and SAT scores must be sent to NCAA directly.

The Nelson Scholarship is given in memory of David Nelson, MSM class of 2003, whose life was cut short in 2001. The scholarship amount is $1000 each year for 4 years.  Requirements include the student to be Catholic and attend St. Gregory’s or a state university in Oklahoma.  Applications are in Mrs. Wedel’s office and are due April 15, 2010.

The Oklahoma City Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women funds a scholarship to high school seniors of its affiliated organizations. To qualify, a student must possess a 2.5 GPA or better and pass a college entry exam, show record of community and parish volunteer service and show financial need. To obtain an ACCW scholarship application, contact Dixie Stake at ostake@pldi.net. The deadline is April 15, 2010.

  1. Dr. Eugene Briggs Memorial Scholarship was established by the Lions Club of Oklahoma. Applicants must be graduates of Oklahoma high school and must have endorsements of three Lions Club members. Applications are due March 31.
  2. The Oklahoma Goodwill Scholarship is for a graduating senior who has a 3.0 GPA or greater and is disabled. Applications are due June 1.
  3. The BSO Ivy Foundation Fund established by Beta Sigma Omega offers scholarships for graduating seniors from a metropolitan Oklahoma City High School. Senior must have 2.5 GPA or greater, and preference is to female students
  4. The Carballo Family Fund Scholarship awards $3,000 to students of Hispanic/Latino heritage who graduate from an Oklahoma high school, have a GPA greater than 2.75, and who attend (or plan to attend) OU or OSU.  Deadline is June 1, 2010.

 

The Oklahoma City Gridiron Foundation grants scholarships to seniors who plan to major in any field of journalism. The Gridiron Foundation application for journalism students must be postmarked by March 15, 2010. Applications are in Mrs. Wedel’s office or visit www.okcgridiron.org.

 

Oklahoma City Independent Insurance Agents 2010 Scholarships and Bill Booth Memorial Scholarship are based on grades, test scores, school and community service.  Scholarships will be awarded in these categories: a child of the OKC Police Department, OKC Fire Department, OKC Public Schools, Putnam City Public Schools, and an IIAOKC agent member or their agency employees.  Entries are due by April 9, 2010.

The Oklahoma City University Clara Luper and American Indian Scholarships are awarded to outstanding seniors who meet the requirements including a 22 ACT, 1020 SAT or 3.0 GPA and rank in the top 50% of their class, submit data forms, applications, & essays, and complete the FAFSA and an interview.  Priority deadline is March 1, 2010.

OERB offers scholarships to petroleum related majors.  Go to www.oerb.com to apply.  Deadline is March 1, 2010.

The Oklahoma Heritage Association sponsors the John W. & Mary D. Nichols scholarship based on a student’s demonstrated knowledge and appreciation of Oklahoma history and geography, as well as academic achievement, citizenship, and leadership. Applications are due March 5, 2010. Go to www.oklahomaheritage.com to find out more.

With Oklahoma’s Promise, the Oklahoma Higher Learning Access Program, 8th, 9th and 10th grade students whose annual family income is $50,000 or less can earn FREE COLLEGE TUITION.  The student must be an Oklahoma resident, apply during 8th, 9th or 10th grade year, take 17 units of high school course and achieve at least a 2.5 GPA, attend school regularly, do homework, stay away from drugs and alcohol, and don’t commit criminal or delinquent acts.  Apply online at www.okpromise.org . There are some new requirements that you can view online.  Apply now.

The Oklahoma Rural Water Association is sponsoring a video contest for high school students.  Each 4 member team will create a video on preserving the earth’s most valuable resource, water.  Videos are due March 12, 2010.

The OSSAA (Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association) and Farmers Insurance are offering student athlete awards of $750.  The scholarship criteria include:

     Must have a 6 or 7 semester minimum GPA of 3.5 or higher (Provide transcript)

     Must have scored at least 24 or the ACT or 1090 on the SAT.  (Must provide documentation)

     Must be a senior student-athlete participating in at least one of the OSSAA sponsored athletic programs listed below each year of their high school career

     Application must be submitted by the student’s high school principal

     All applications must be fully complete including 2 letters of reference to be considered. One letter from high school principal or his/her designee, and one from a current or previous teacher of the applicant.

OSU awards a 4-year tuition waiver scholarship to Oklahoma high school Valedictorians. To win a Valedictorian Scholarship, the principal must certify that a student has achieved a 4.0 or better GPA. Due date for these scholarships is June 1, 2010.

The Phi Beta Kappa Association of Oklahoma City awards scholarship to 3 outstanding high school seniors in the amount of $2,000.  Requirements include a 30 ACT or SAT equivalent, attend an institution with a Phi Beta Kappa chapter (Check www.pbk.org), complete the application and essay, and attend a short interview.  The deadline is Friday, March 26, 2010.  See Mrs. Wedel for an application.

Rose State College awards Foundation Scholarships each year to first-time students and returning students on the basis of academic achievement, financial need, specific majors and/or special qualities such as community service. To check out scholarships, go to www.rose.edu.

Got Milk? The “Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year” Awards are for graduating high school student athletes who show excellence in academics, athletic performance, leadership, and community service. The South OKC Chamber of Commerce is offering several scholarship opportunities.  The Cox Communications Student of the Year Award is for students who demonstrate not only extraordinary scholastic aptitude, but also great personal success, whether that means overcoming adversity, demonstrating initiative, or another attribute that fosters potential.  The student of the year is nominated by the principal or another school official, one per school.  Nominations must be made before the end of February.  The Sylvan Learning Center Honorable Mention and Wal-mart Supercenter and Neighborhood Markets Flex Award are also awarded from the pool of Student of the Year nominees.  The Chamber Member Scholarships also include tuition waiver for deserving students for Francis Tuttle, Metro Tech, and Moore Norman Technology Centers, as well as a student who is pursuing a law or business degree at OCCC.

The Southwestern Oklahoma State University Theta Alpha Omega are awarding scholarships to male freshman students whose ACT score is 2.5+ and who write a 500 word essay over “The Importance of Charity in Today’s Society”.  Deadline is April 1, 2010.

The State Regents Academic Program awards scholarships to students whose score sums equal 133 on ACT or 1550 on SAT or who is a National Merit Finalist or Presidential Scholar.  Find out about applications from www.okhighered.org.

Students of Mount St. Mary who plan to enroll in an accredited bachelor’s degree, associate’s degree, diploma, or vocational/technical program are invited to apply for the Charles E Thoele Scholarship Program. The Alpha Tau Omega Distinct Advantage Scholarship is made available to any male graduating senior who will be attending Oklahoma State University and is interested in joining a fraternity.  See Mrs. Wedel for an application which is due April 1, 2010.

The AXA Achievement Community Scholarships offer college scholarships to high school seniors who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in their activities in school, the community or the workplace.  Applicants must be legal residents, enroll full-time in a 2 or 4 year college by fall 2010, demonstrate ambition, determination to set and attain goals, respect for self, family and community and ability to succeed in college.  Deadline for the Achievement Community Scholarship is February 15, 2010. The Catholic Foundation of Oklahoma, Inc. will award numerous scholarships to Catholic students.  The CFO guidelines include scholastic ability, financial need, a full-time student, and must be a resident of the Archdiocese of OKC and an active member of a Catholic Parish.  Scholarships include the CFO College and University Scholarships for the university of your choice, the P.B. Connelly Medical Scholarship to OU, the Helen R. The Executive Women International offers the EWI Scholarship.  One junior student, whose career plans must include a four-year college degree, is eligible to apply for this scholarship.  Criteria include academic achievement, extracurricular activities, leadership skills, communication activities, and communication skills.  Applications are due by February 26, 2010.  The top 5 applications will be interviewed April 13, 2010, at Oklahoma City University.  See Mrs. Wedel for an application.

 

FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) forms for Pell Grants, Work Study and Loans are available for senior after January 1, at www.fafsa.ed.gov .

The FBI National Academy Associates is offering to qualified incoming sophomores and juniors (14-16) who have a 3.0 or higher and good citizenship, the opportunity to participate in an 8 day program of leadership development at the FBI Academy facility in Quantico, Virginia.  The application is due March 15, 2010.  See Mrs. Wedel for details.

The Greater Oklahoma City Alumnae Panhellenic Foundation is offering numerous scholarships to Oklahoma City area girls who will be attending a college or university in Oklahoma in the fall of 2010.  Requirements are:

     Must be a graduating senior girl from a Greater OKC area high school

     Must enter a University in the State of Oklahoma with National Panhellenic Conference affiliations in the Fall of 2009 (Cameron, ECU, NSU, OCU, OSU, OU, UCO and Tulsa U)

     Have a GPA of 3.0 or greater and a minimum score of 22 on the ACT

The Hispanic Scholarship Fund is offering scholarships to graduating seniors.  Requirements are:

  • Be of Hispanic heritage
  • Be a U.S. citizen or a legal permanent resident

  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale
  • Must apply for federal financial aid (FAFSA)

KFC Colonel’s Scholars Program is looking for outstanding seniors with financial need and entrepreneurial spirit.  To qualify, student must be graduating from high school this academic year, enrolling in a public, in-state college or university, have a GPA of 2.75, be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, demonstrate financial need and pursue a bachelor’s degree.  Go online to www.kfcscholars.org.  Deadline is February 10, 2010.

Kohl’s Kids Who Care is open to all children 6-18, who have not graduated from high school.  You must be nominated by a Kohl’s consumer.  Nomination forms are available in Kohl’s Department Stores on February 1 through March 15, 2010, or at the Kohl’s Kids Who Care webpage.

The Latino Agency High School Scholarship is available for students of Hispanic heritage, have a minimum of 2.0 GPA, and have financial need. See Mrs. Wedel for an application. Deadline is February 26, 2010.

The MacDowell Club of Allied Arts of Oklahoma City is offering scholarships to deserving seniors who will major in the Arts, have a need for help with private lessons or supplies, have participated in school and community services, and have shown themselves to be good citizens.  Applications which are due March 27, 2010 are available in Mrs. Wedel’s office.

Ronald McDonald House Scholars offers the African American Future Achievers Scholarship, Asia Scholarship, Hacer Scholarship, and scholars for any race.  Go to www.rmhc.org for an application.   The applications are due Feb. 16, 2010.

Mercy Health Center is sponsoring its Eighth Annual Health Careers Exploration Day on Friday, February 5th. The goal of the fair is to introduce the many health care professions available to high school students. If you are interested, contact Coach Hatchett, Sister Betty or Mrs. Wedel.

Military Children Scholarships are available for dependents of military personnel, who have commissary privileges at Tinker AFB, GPA 3.00+, and write an essay, can go on line to www.militaryscholar.org.  The application is due at a commissary on Feb. 17, 2010.

The National Coop Scholarship Program offers 170 merit scholarships to students who plan to attend Drexel University, Johnson & Wales, Kettering University, Pace University, Rochester Institute of Technology, University of Cincinnati, University of Toledo, or Wentworth Institute of Technology. Deadline for submitting application and essay is February 15, 2010.

The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) offers several scholarships to Italian American students.  Scholarship applications are due March 5, 2010.  Apply on line at www.niaf.org/scholarships/index.asp.

To find National Society of Professional Engineers scholarships to promote diversity in engineering, go to www.nspe.org/scholarships.  Application due March 1, 2010.

Native American Student Scholarships vary by tribe affiliation.  Most require parents to fill out the FAFSA form before applying.  Contact Office of Indian Education.

In the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC), you choose the college or university and they pay the bill. You’ll be a student at a regular college and receive up to $180,000 toward tuition, fees and textbooks, plus a monthly spending allowance. All student athletes who are interested in playing college sports must register online at the NCAA Clearinghouse website, www.ncaaclearinghouse.net, and then click on “Prospective Student-Athletes”.  ACT and SAT scores must be sent to NCAA directly.

Newman University is offering the ASC Community Leader Scholarship to empower students to transform society by permeating it with Christian values.  High school seniors who apply must hold a 3.0 GPA and have an outstanding record of community service.  Applications, which are available in Mrs. Wedel's office, are due before February 1, 2010.

The Oklahoma City Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women funds a scholarship to high school seniors of its affiliated organizations. To qualify, a student must possess a 2.5 GPA or better and pass a college entry exam, show record of community and parish volunteer service and show financial need. To obtain an ACCW scholarship application, contact Dixie Stake at ostake@pldi.net. The deadline is April 15, 2010.

The Oklahoma City Community Foundation offers numerous scholarships to students in the OKC area. To check some of these out, go on-line to www.occf.org .  The H.W. Almen-West OKC Rotary scholarship winner will earn $4,000 and must have a 2.75 GPA and not exceed a $100,000 family income. The application must include an essay on “The Object of Rotary in My Community.” The Commander Family scholarship is for seniors who work while they attend high school.  See Mrs. Wedel for applications for these scholarships. Deadlines are February 28, 2010.

The Oklahoma City Gridiron Foundation grants scholarships to seniors who plan to major in any field of journalism. The Gridiron Foundation application for journalism students must be postmarked by March 15, 2010. Applications are in Mrs. Wedel’s office or visit www.okcgridiron.org.

 

The Oklahoma City University Clara Luper and American Indian Scholarships are awarded to outstanding seniors who meet the requirements including a 22 ACT, 1020 SAT or 3.0 GPA and rank in the top 50% of their class, submit data forms, applications, & essays, and complete the FAFSA and an interview.  Priority deadline is March 1, 2010.

The Oklahoma Heritage Association sponsors the John W. & Mary D. With Oklahoma’s Promise, the Oklahoma Higher Learning Access Program, 8th, 9th and 10th grade students whose annual family income is $50,000 or less can earn FREE COLLEGE TUITION.  The student must be an Oklahoma resident, apply during 8th, 9th or 10th grade year, take 17 units of high school course and achieve at least a 2.5 GPA, attend school regularly, do homework, stay away from drugs and alcohol, and don’t commit criminal or delinquent acts.  Apply online at www.okpromise.org . The Oklahoma Rural Water Association is sponsoring a video contest for high school students.  Each 4 member team will create a video on preserving the earth’s most valuable resource, water.  Videos are due March 12, 2010.

The OSSAA (Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association) and Farmers Insurance are offering student athlete awards of $750.  The scholarship criteria include:

     Must have a 6 or 7 semester minimum GPA of 3.5 or higher (Provide transcript)

     Must have scored at least 24 or the ACT or 1090 on the SAT.  (Must provide documentation)

     Must be a senior student-athlete participating in at least one of the OSSAA sponsored athletic programs listed below each year of their high school career

The Western Union Foundation's Family Scholarship Program, a new educational initiative for migrants, immigrants, and their families in the US, is intended to help two members of the same family move up the economic development ladder through education. Scholarships may be used for tuition for college education language acquisition classes, technical/skill training, and/or financial literacy. Requirements include:

   All applicants must be 18 or older.

   Country of origin for one of the applicants must be outside the U.S.

   Applications must include must be two family members.

Engineering and Geosciences Majors, ETS is announcing The Shell Oil Company Technical Scholarship and Shell Minority Scholarship, which award 20 $2,500 scholarships if you are attending certain schools including OU, University of Texas, University of Colorado, Stanford, MIT and Colorado School of Mines.  For an application and a complete list of colleges, see Mrs. Wedel.  Deadline is February 16, 2010.

The Executive Women International offers the EWI Scholarship.  One junior student, whose career plans must include a four-year college degree, is eligible to apply for this scholarship.  Criteria include academic achievement, extracurricular activities, leadership skills, communication activities, and communication skills.  Applications are due by February 26, 2010.  The top 5 applications will be interviewed April 13, 2010, at Oklahoma City University.  See Mrs. Wedel for an application.

 

FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) forms for Pell Grants, Work Study and Loans are available for senior after January 1, at www.fafsa.ed.gov .

The FBI National Academy Associates is offering to qualified incoming sophomores and juniors (14-16) who have a 3.0 or higher and good citizenship, the opportunity to participate in an 8 day program of leadership development at the FBI Academy facility in Quantico, Virginia.  The application is due March 15, 2010.  See Mrs. Wedel for details. 

Foundation of Promise for Juniors who will be first generation college students.  No parent or grandparent can have ever attended college before.  Get an application online at www.occf.org  or see Mrs. Wedel for one.  These are due to Mrs. Wedel on February 28, 2009.

The Gates Millennium Scholars program was established to provide outstanding, low income students an opportunity to complete a college degree in any discipline they choose.  This scholarship supports the costs of college attendance and graduate school.  Students are eligible to apply if they:

?     Are African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian/Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American

?     Are a citizen/legal permanent resident or national of the U.S.

?     Have attained a cumulative GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (unweighted)

?     Will be enrolling for the first-time at a U.S. accredited college or university as full time, degree-seeking first year student in the Fall of 2010

?     Have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular or other activities

?     Meet the Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria.  Must fill out FAFSA and submit by February 1, 2010, & send in SAR as early as possible.

?     Have all 3 required forms (Nominee Personal Information Form, Nominator Form, and Recommender Form) completed and submitted by the January 11, 2010 deadline.

The Greater Oklahoma City Alumnae Panhellenic Foundation is offering numerous scholarships to Oklahoma City area girls who will be attending a college or university in Oklahoma in the fall of 2010.  Requirements are:

?     Must be a graduating senior girl from a Greater OKC area high school

?     Must enter a University in the State of Oklahoma with National Panhellenic Conference affiliations in the Fall of 2009 (Cameron, ECU, NSU, OCU, OSU, OU, UCO and Tulsa U)

?     Have a GPA of 3.0 or greater and a minimum score of 22 on the ACT

The Hispanic Scholarship Fund is offering scholarships to graduating seniors.  Requirements are:

  • Be of Hispanic heritage
  • Be a U.S. citizen or a legal permanent resident
  • Be enrolled full time in a degree seeking program for the upcoming academic year
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale
  • Must apply for federal financial aid (FAFSA)

Applications for the Tom Joyner Foundation 2008 Full Ride Scholarship are now online at www.blackamericaweb.com.  This scholarship is awarded to a freshman entering a Historically Black College/University in the US.  The deadline is January 23, 2010.

Would you go against the crowd to do what is right?  It takes courage to stand up for your beliefs.  The John F. Kennedy Library Foundation invites U.S. high school students to write an original essay on the political courage of a U.S. elected official.  Visit the Profile in Courage Award Program at www.jfklibrary.org to find out more.  Deadline for submission is January 9, 2010.

KFC Colonel’s Scholars Program is looking for outstanding seniors with financial need and entrepreneurial spirit.  To qualify, student must be graduating from high school this academic year, enrolling in a public, in-state college or university, have a GPA of 2.75, be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, demonstrate financial need and pursue a bachelor’s degree.  Go online to www.kfcscholars.org .  Deadline is February 10, 2010.

Kohl’s Kids Who Care is open to all children 6-18, who have not graduated from high school.  You must be nominated by a Kohl’s consumer.  Nomination forms are available in Kohl’s Department Stores on February 1 through March 15, 2010, or at the Kohl’s Kids Who Care webpage.

The Latino Agency High School Scholarship is available for students of Hispanic heritage, have a minimum of 2.0 GPA, and have financial need. See Mrs. Wedel for an application. Deadline is February 26, 2010.

The MacDowell Club of Allied Arts of Oklahoma City is offering scholarships to deserving seniors who will major in the Arts, have a need for help with private lessons or supplies, have participated in school and community services, and have shown themselves to be good citizens.  Applications will be available soon.

Military Children Scholarships are available for dependents of military personnel, who have commissary privileges at Tinker AFB, GPA 3.00+, and write an essay, can go on line to www.militaryscholar.org.  The application is due at a commissary on Feb. 17, 2010.

The National Coop Scholarship Program offers 170 merit scholarships to students who plan to attend Drexel University, Johnson & Wales, Kettering University, Pace University, Rochester Institute of Technology, University of Cincinnati, University of Toledo, or Wentworth Institute of Technology. Deadline for submitting application and essay is February 15, 2010.

The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) offers several scholarships to Italian American students.  Scholarship applications are due March 5, 2010.  Apply on line at www.niaf.org/scholarships/index.asp.

Native American Student Scholarships vary by tribe affiliation.  Most require parents to fill out the FAFSA form before applying.  Contact Office of Indian Education.

In the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC), you choose the college or university and they pay the bill. You’ll be a student at a regular college and receive up to $180,000 toward tuition, fees and textbooks, plus a monthly spending allowance. All student athletes who are interested in playing college sports must register online at the NCAA Clearinghouse website, www.ncaaclearinghouse.net, and then click on “Prospective Student-Athletes”.  ACT and SAT scores must be sent to NCAA directly.

Newman University is offering the ASC Community Leader Scholarship to empower students to transform society by permeating it with Christian values.  High school seniors who apply must hold a 3.0 GPA and have an outstanding record of community service.  Applications, which are available in Mrs. Wedel's office, are due before February 1, 2010.

The Oklahoma Association of Community Colleges is offering $1,000 scholarships to seniors who have a 3.0 GPA and are planning to attend an Oklahoma Community College.  See Mrs. Wedel for an application or visit www.oacc.onenet.net.  Deadline is January 29, 2010.

The Oklahoma City Community Foundation offers numerous scholarships to students in the OKC area. To check some of these out, go on-line to www.occf.org .  The H.W. Almen-West OKC Rotary scholarship winner will earn $4,000 and must have a 2.75 GPA and not exceed a $100,000 family income. The application must include an essay on “The Object of Rotary in My Community.” The Commander Family scholarship is for seniors who work while they attend high school.  See Mrs. Wedel for applications for these scholarships. Deadlines are February 28, 2010.

The Oklahoma City Gridiron Foundation grants scholarships to seniors who plan to major in any field of journalism. The Gridiron Foundation application for journalism students must be postmarked by March 15, 2010. Applications are in Mrs. Wedel’s office or visit www.okcgridiron.org.

 

The Oklahoma City University Clara Luper and American Indian Scholarships are awarded to outstanding seniors who meet the requirements including a 22 ACT, 1020 SAT or 3.0 GPA and rank in the top 50% of their class, submit data forms, applications, & essays, and complete the FAFSA and an interview.  Priority deadline is March 1, 2010.

The Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs will award scholarships for the best essay on “Why is entrepreneurship a foundation of our freedom?” Deadline is February 8, 2010. For most information, visit www.ocpathink.org

The Oklahoma Engineering Foundation awards scholarships to high school seniors who demonstrate a genuine interest in an engineering career. These scholarships must be used in engineering at Oklahoma Christian, OSU, ORU, OU, TU or UCO. Applicants must be Oklahoma residents and US citizens. Selection of recipients will be based on:

?     3.0+ GPA and 24-29 ACT

?     ACT Math Component 28

?     Extra curricular activities

The Oklahoma Heritage Association sponsors the John W. & Mary D. Nichols scholarship based on a student’s demonstrated knowledge and appreciation of Oklahoma history and geography, as well as academic achievement, citizenship, and leadership. The Oklahoma Medical Research foundation is accepting applications for its 2010 Sir Alexander Fleming summer scholarship program.  Application deadline is February 1, 2010.  For more information and applications, go to www.omrf.org/fleming .

With Oklahoma’s Promise, the Oklahoma Higher Learning Access Program, 8th, 9th and 10th grade students whose annual family income is $50,000 or less can earn FREE COLLEGE TUITION.  The student must be an Oklahoma resident, apply during 8th, 9th or 10th grade year, take 17 units of high school course and achieve at least a 2.5 GPA, attend school regularly, do homework, stay away from drugs and alcohol, and don’t commit criminal or delinquent acts.  Apply online at www.okpromise.org . There are some new requirements that you can view online.  Apply now.

The Oklahoma Rural Water Association is sponsoring a video contest for high school students.  Each 4 member team will create a video on preserving the earth’s most valuable resource, water.  Videos are due March 12, 2010.

The OSSAA (Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association) and Farmers Insurance are offering student athlete awards of $750.  The scholarship criteria include:

?     Must have a 6 or 7 semester minimum GPA of 3.5 or higher (Provide transcript)

?     Must have scored at least 24 or the ACT or 1090 on the SAT.  (Must provide documentation)

?     Must be a senior student-athlete participating in at least one of the OSSAA sponsored athletic programs listed below each year of their high school career

?     Application must be submitted by the student’s high school principal

Rose State College awards Foundation Scholarships each year to first-time students and returning students on the basis of academic achievement, financial need, specific majors and/or special qualities such as community service. To check out scholarships, go to www.rose.edu.

The South OKC Chamber of Commerce is offering several scholarship opportunities.  The Cox Communications Student of the Year Award is for students who demonstrate not only extraordinary scholastic aptitude, but also great personal success, whether that means overcoming adversity, demonstrating initiative, or another attribute that fosters potential.  The student of the year is nominated by the principal or another school official, one per school.  Nominations must be made before the end of February.  The Sylvan Learning Center Honorable Mention and Wal-mart Supercenter and Neighborhood Markets Flex Award are also awarded from the pool of Student of the Year nominees.  The Chamber Member Scholarships also include tuition waiver for deserving students for Francis Tuttle, Metro Tech, and Moore Norman Technology Centers, as well as a student who is pursuing a law or business degree at OCCC.

The State Regents Academic Program awards scholarships to students whose score sums equal 133 on ACT or 1550 on SAT or who is a National Merit Finalist or Presidential Scholar.  Applications can be gotten from aharris@osrhe.edu.

The Sutton Award is awarded to 10th, 11th and 12th grade students who demonstrate an ability to communicate a current conservation topic in a most artistic, dramatic or compelling way. The conservation project must be presented by a movie, photo essay, fine art or advertising media and must include a project essay. Students of Mount St. Mary who plan to enroll in an accredited bachelor’s degree, associate’s degree, diploma, or vocational/technical program are invited to apply for the Charles E Thoele Scholarship Program. Selection will be based on 1) academic performance, as demonstrated by GPA, class rank, and college test scores and 2) personal character, as demonstrated by participation in school and community activities, work experience, leadership qualities, awards and honors, statement of goals and aspirations, and personal and school references. March 1, 2010, is the deadline for application.

The Tinker Officers’ Spouses’ Club (TOSC) offers scholarships to seniors who are dependents of US Military members of all ranks or civil service employees (DoD) at TAFB. Applicants must have a 3.5 GPA, an SAT of 880 (verbal & math) or ACT of 22. Applications with an essay on either 1) Who is your role model? Explain why. or 2) Should there be a mandatory one year public service commitment for high school students immediately upon graduation? Explain why. must be submitted by February 16, 2010. The University of Oklahoma Medical Humanities Scholars Program is a highly competitive program for entering Honors College Freshmen who wish to pursue a liberal arts curriculum while they prepare for medical school. Applications are due January 10, 2010.

The University of Oklahoma College of Engineering offers a generous number of 4-year scholarships of $1500 per year for chemical engineering majors. The deadline for freshmen scholarships is February 1, 2010.

The Sam Walton Community Scholarship will be available on-line beginning November 2, 2009, at www.walmartfoundation.org. The access code is (SWCS).  Deadline is January 29, 2010.

The Western Union Foundation's Family Scholarship Program, a new educational initiative for migrants, immigrants, and their families in the US, is intended to help two members of the same family move up the economic development ladder through education. Scholarships may be used for tuition for college education language acquisition classes, technical/skill training, and/or financial literacy. Requirements include:

??   All applicants must be 18 or older.

?   Country of origin for one of the applicants must be outside the U.S.

?   Applications must include must be two family members.
