Mount St. Mary has made a substantial
commitment to integrate technology into its curriculum.
Our school has over 100 Pentium-class PCs connected
to a network that provides broadband Internet
access, Microsoft Office XP, and a variety
of educational resources. Our students have easy
access to these computers with PCs in every classroom
and two computer labs and a laptop mobile lab.
Our technology curriculum includes three computer
classes that teach everything from keyboarding
and word processing skills to creating multi-media
presentations, publications, spreadsheets, and creating web
pages. Our teachers integrate these skills into
their lesson plans, thus allowing students to
use technology for research or to create a project
for class.
We have other technology tools that enhance our
students’ learning experience as well. For
example, our library features an automated resource
checkout system that allows students to search
for library materials from any computer in the
building. Our science classes use computer-based
measurement systems that automatically record
parameters such as temperature, force, or humidity
while an experiment is occurring, and our journalism
class creates the school’s yearbook using
digital cameras and desktop publishing.
We put technology to use for our parents as well.
Through a data management system called “PowerSchool
,” parents
can access their student’s grades, assignments,
and course outlines in real time and communicate
directly with teachers via email.
